Abstract

Twenty pregnant buffaloes, eight weeks before the expected calving date, were assigned into two homogeneous groups, 10 animals each, according to their season of lactation (2nd to 8th season of lactation). Each group was assigned randomly to one of the following two dietary treatments; G1 were fed according to the feeding regime of the traditional farm system. G2 were fed the same feeding regime plus 10 ml (~mg) black seed oil (BSO)/head/day. After calving, the buffaloes offspring of each group were divided into two similar groups of five animals each, according to their birth weight. Where calves of T1 and T2 were the offspring of buffaloes of G1 (the control group) while those of T3 and T4 were belong to buffaloes of G2. All the experimental calves were suckled natural buffalo milk and fed on the feeding regime of the traditional farm system only (T1 and T3) or plus 5 ml BSO/head /day (T2 and T4).The results showed that: the pregnant buffaloes received BSO gave the higher (P≥0.05) digestibility of DM, OM, CP, CF and EE than G1 (control group) while G1 had the higher (P≥0.05) digestibility value of NFE.
