Abstract
The present work is directed towards the studying of compression behavior of some moqette floor coverings. Some woven and tufted moquette samples are subjected to static compression test on Shirley thickness meter before use and after partial use. During the test, samples are subjected to repeated compression –recovery procedure and pressure –thickness reading is analysed using computer to fine the most convenient mathematical relationship between pressure and thickness of moquette samples .This relationship is used to formulate some important expressions. An instrument is developed for the purpose of counting people walking on moquette samples .Many compressional properties are studied to investigate the effect of constructional details of moquette on it’s compressional behavior .Correlation between the values after partial use is searched for in order to save effort and time consumed I actual test. Reflection of compressional behavior of moquette samples on their behavior towards abrasion, soiling, appearance change , and comfort of use is discussed.
