Abstract

Children receive total parenteral nutrition often exposed to blood stream infection through different methods; it may be simple IV line (PPN), and central venous catheter. Providing those children their nutrition and treatment without complication is the basic right for them.it can be achieved through training of nurses about total parenteral nutrition administration, component, complications and central line maintenance and care. Also conducting more researches at this point to improve their quality of life. The current study aimed to evaluate the effect of educational intervention program on nurses’ performance about prevention of bacterial infection among children receiving total parenteral nutrition. A quasi experimental research design was used in the present study. The study was conducted at Pediatric Intensive Care Unit of Tanta Main University is affiliated to Minestry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and Al Mabra Tanta Hospital which Affiliated to the Health Insurance. A Convenience sampling consisted of thirty five nurses from Tanta University Hospital and fifteen nurses from Al-Mabra Hospital. A purposive sampling of fifty children at Intensive Care Units that was received total parenteral nutrition, at the previously mentioned settings was assigned in current study. Inclusion criteria of selected children included the following: Both sexes, aged from 1 year to 4 years and children who receive total parenteral nutrition.
