Abstract

Phylum Mollusca is widely spread. These organisms are able to adapt well to changes in environmental factors, temperature and salinity. Also, molluscs have many defense mechanisms against their predators. Snails can provide a considerable variety of bioactive compounds for cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries, useful for the development of new formulations with less toxicity and post effects compared to regular compounds. A lot of studies reported on the medicinal properties and bioactive potential of snail’s extracts, formulations, and conotoxins as antioxidant, antibacterial, antifungal, analgesic, anti-inflammatory and anticancer potential. E. desertorum is widespread terrestrial snails in the north coast deserts of Egypt. Studies reported that that E. desertorum mucin could be used as a potential hepatoprotective, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory agent for hepatic disorders.
