This study aimed mainly “The Possibility of Building an Extension Program for Farmers to Reduce Farm Environmental Risks in Bangar El Soukar Area” by achieving the following
sub-Objectives: An Exploratory Study of the Farm Environmental Risks in Bangar El Soukar Area from the Leaders’ Point of View, second: An analytical study: By identifying some of the distinctive characteristics of the responders in Bangar El Soukar Area, studying the
knowledge and practices of the responders related to farm environmental risks in the study area, studying the Semantic significance and conjugate relationships between the knowledge
and practices of the responders related to the reduction of farm environmental risks and the
independent variables studied in the study area, studying the correlation and regression relationships between the knowledge and practices of the responders related to the reduction
of farm environmental risks and the independent variables studied in the study area, and designing a proposed extension program to reduce farm environmental risks in the study area.
The objectives of the study were achieved through two questionnaire forms, the first form is for the leaders of the area, and the data was collected in a purposive method from 50 leaders
of the area, and the second form is for farmers, data was collected in a simple random way on a sample of 200 responders at 10% of all.
The following is a summary of the main findings of the study:
An Exploratory Study An Exploratory Study of the Farm Environmental Risks in Bangar El Soukar Area from the Leaders’ Point of View:
The results Showed the existence of high-Spread Farm environmental risks, where ignorance of environmental protection legislation ranked first from the point of view of local leaders with a relative weight of 2.7 degrees, followed by neglect of farm waste recycling, intensive and unsafe use of pesticides, with a relative weight of 2.42 and 2.40 degrees, respectively. While the omission of organic fertilization of farm soils, neglect of the use of farm soil enhancers, excessive use of irrigation water, the spread of weeds in farm soils, noncompliance with crop succession, and neglect of integrated biological control occupied the relative weight of them 2.18, 2.14, 2.10, 2.08, 2.06 and 2.00 degrees respectively.
The results also showed the existence of medium-spread environmental risks, where the risks of farm land degradation and the use of unapproved vaccines ranked first from the point of view of local leaders with the same relative weight of 1.86 degrees, followed by neglect of
deep plowing of farm soils, neglect of land insolation after harvest, increased rates of postharvest loss, and neglect of turning the land before planting, where the relative weight of these
risks reached 1.78, 1.66, 1.56, and 1.52 degrees, respectively. While the spread of worms in farm soils, the rise in the ground water level, and irrigation with farm wastewater, the relative
weight of these risks reached 1.38, 1.32, and 1.06 degrees, respectively.
An Analytical Study First: Identifying some of the distinctive characteristics of the responders in Bangar El
Soukar Area:
That responders’ age ranged between (30-75) years, an arithmetic mean of (55.33) years, and a standard deviation of (11.77), that the majority of the responders within the low and
middle age categories, and represent 65.0% of the total responders. Full-time farm work:
That 107 responders are fully dedicated to agriculture, amounting to 53.5% of the total responders, while 93 responders have a job besides working in agriculture, amounting to 46.5% of the total responders. Education: That an arithmetic average of (8.79) degrees, and a Bstandard deviation of (4.62), that 125 out of the total number of responders within categories
of low and medium education and represent 62.5% of the total responders.
The number of family members living together as one economic livelihood: That ranged between (2-11) responder, an arithmetic mean (4.65) responder and a standard deviation (2.05). that majority of responders within the categories of small and medium-sized households, 173 responders within the categories of small and medium-sized households out
of the total number of responders. Agricultural land tenure: That the agricultural land tenure of the responders has ranged Between (2-14) acres, an arithmetic average of (5.96) acres, and a standard deviation of (2.59), that the majority of the responders within the categories of
small and medium holdings, 165 of all within the categories of small and medium holdings, representing 82.5% of all.
