Abstract

Background: Children with hemiparesis tend to bear more weight over the non-paretic than on the paretic that may impact normal biomechanical alignment of joints. Quadriceps (Q) angle has been shown as an indicator of the biomechanical alignment of knee joint. Purpose: Purposes of the study were to 1) provide normative data about Q-angle values in normal children and compare it to children with hemiparesis.2) Investigate effect of asymmetry weight bearing (ASWB) on Q-angle in children with hemiparesis. Methods: 50 normal children assigned as (GA) and 20 children with hemiparesis assigned as (GB) participated in this study. Children age ranged from 6 to 10 years. Computerized photogrammetry was used to evaluate Q-angle values, digital weighting scales were used to evaluate ASWB. Findings: findings revealed that significant difference exist between GA and GB, and a direct correlation between ASWB and changes in the Q-angle values. Conclusion: from obtained results of the study, it is concluded that there is a deviation from normal values of Q-angle in children with hemiparesis and that deviation is related to ASWB presented in children with hemiparesis
