Abstract
This study was conducted to determine the effect of ultrasound versus low level laser therapy on sciatica postnatal. Sixty postnatal women with sciatica participated in this study, randomly selected from the Outpatient Clinic, police academy. Aged 25-40 years, were randomized into two groups equal in number: group (A) received pulsed ultrasound therapy for 20 minutes per sessions, 3 times/week for 12 weeks in addition to flexibility exercise for abdominal and back muscles, while group (B) received LLLT for 2 minutes per point 3 times/week for 12 weeks in addition to the same flexibility exercise for abdominal and back muscles). Evaluation was performed before and after the treatment program in both groups (A & B) through pain level measurement by visual analogue scale and hip range of motion measurement (ROM) by goniometer. Results revealed that both groups showed a statistically highly significant decrease in pain level post treatment compared with that pre -treatment (P = 0.0001) and highly significant increase in hip ROM (P = 0.0001). When comparing both groups after treatment, there was highly significant improvement in VAS score (P = 0.001) and hip ROM (P = 0.001) in favor for group A. Accordingly, it could be concluded that pulsed ultrasound therapy is an effective modality than low level laser in treating postnatal sciatica.
