Abstract

ABSTRACT
Wadi Naghamish is one of the valleys located on the northwest coast of Egypt, 20 km east of Matrouh city. It occupies an area of about 9000 hectares. The Egyptian government is interested in developing valleys on the northwest coast to create new communities. Hence, the study of soil water erosion is one of the obstacles that limit sustainable agricultural development.
The Wadi is characterized by semi-arid conditions and exposed to the removal of the surface layers by seasonal floods, which cut off the natural cover, destroy the infrastructures, beside cause many other natural disasters as well as cause a great economic loss.
The current work aims at evaluating soil water erosion in Wadi Naghamish using the Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation (RUSLE) based on the integration of remote sensing data, soil properties, topographic factors, and climate data. Geomorphological units of the area were produced based on the integration of the Digital Elevation Model (DEM) and sentinel 2 data .Furthermore , evaluate the capability of Hyperspectral spectroscopy to assess the soil erosion using the spectral reflectance through Vis-NIR (350-2500 nm)
The results showed that the geomorphological units of wadi Wadi Nagamish are: sand batches (0.03 %), basin (2.12 %), wadies (8.97%), alluvial terraces (5.64%), sand plain (4.21), escarpment (1.3%), low table land (7.5%), od table land (15.9%), high table land (54.32%).
The results showed fluctuating soil loose values from 0 to 1.35 ton/hectare./year . The maximum value of soil erosion was noted in moderate table land where it reached 1.35 Ton /
