Abstract The present study presents synthesis of three azo dyes based on 2-hydroxy-3-naphthoic acid as common coupler with tetrazonium salt of benzidine resulting azo dye Ia, diazonium salt of aniline resulting in azo dye Ib and with diazonium salt of 2-amino benzoic acid resulting in azo dye Ic. These dyes were characterized by elemental analyses, mass spectroscopy, ¹H-NMR, IR and electronic spectroscopic techniques. The complexes of Cu(II), Ni(II), Co(II), Fe(III) and Zn(II) with these dyes were prepared and characterized by elemental analyses, 1H-NMR, IR, electronic spectroscopic techniques, thermal analyses and magnetic moment measurements |
