Abstract

Aim Prediction of impact of intravenous hydration on post ercp pancreatitis in patients with naive papillae Background Pancreatitis is a serious complication of endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), which may lead to death. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the preventive effect of aggressive fluid therapy on the incidence of post-ERCP pancreatitis. Results PEP occurred in 5 patients in the Indomethacin group only and no patients developed PEP in the Indomethacin + hydration group with statistically significant difference (8% vs. 0%, P = 0.022).Serum amylase levels in the Indomethacin + hydration group were lower than the Indomethacin group with statistically significant difference(P = 0.045).Serum lipase levels in the combination group were lower than Indomethacin group only Conclusion Post ERCP aggressive fluid therapy with saline solution can effectively prevent PEP, pancreatic pain, and hyperamylasemia. This method did not cause complications for the patients who were not at high risk of excessive fluid therapy
