Abstract

1.INTRODUCTION
Salinization is one of the major threats of soil sustainability in the world, especially in arid and semi-arid regions, particularly in Egypt. Increasing the global food security is an important demand to increase crop production in arid and semiarid regions.
Soil salinization (FAO, 2005 Ouda et al., 2016, (Negm, 2017 and Helmi, 2018) and water scarcity problems (Ouda and Zohry, 2020) are among the major threats affecting crop productivity in Egypt, which increase the food gab and cause problems for the food security. These problems affect on the economic situation. Saline-sodic soils are soils that contain both a high concentration of soluble salts and a high concentration of exchangeable sodium e.g. Sahl El-Hosainiya plain, Sharqia Governorate, Egypt. The stressed conditions of soil salinization in Egypt have grown up (El-Akhdar et al., 2019; El-Ramady et al., 2019a; Negm et al., 2019) to represent about 46% of the total Nile Delta zone (El-Ramady et al., 2019b). Thus, the main challenge of the Egyptian farmers is to grow up salt-tolerant plants under such saline and alkaline conditions and also to manage the ameliorating inputs to lessen soil deterioration and sustain soil productivity.
Chemical and biological amelioration could be used for improving salt affected soil properties with the consideration of leaching requirements for leaching salts from the root zone of crops and taking into consideration the improvement of drainage.
Chemical amelioration is by appli
