Abstract

Background: FXR is a nuclear receptor for bile acids; responsible for regulating expression of multiple genes, which products are critical for bile acid and cholesterol homeostasis. Studies showed that FXR agonist directly regulates expression of the bile salt exportation and transport, and its deficiency results in cholestasis, since the regulation of hepatic gene expression by FXR promotes a net efflux of bile acids from the liver.
Objective: The aim of the study was to compare Between Farnisoid X Receptors (FXR) Level in Gastric Tissue of Patients With Gastritis versus Patients with controlled HCV versus those with Portal Hypertension.
Patient and Methods: This study will be conducted at The Gastroenterology and Hepatology Unit Department of Internal Medicine Ain Shams University.
Results: The current study showed that detection of FXR (farnesoid FXR receptor) positivity in gastritis patients (group A) (17.6%) while in HCV controlled patients (group B) it was (75.0%) and in portal hypertension group (group C ) it was (20.0%) with no statistically significant difference between the groups(p value <0.001) Group-B had most frequent high FXR.
