Abstract

Systemic lupus erythematosus is an autoimmune disease with a high morbidity forming a major health problem. Its characterized by immune complex deposition and marked tissue damage resulting in many manifestations in various organs such as skin, joints, kidney, CNS, blood, heart and lung Aim of the work: The aim of this work is to study the association between TLR9 gene (rs352140) polymorphism and the risk of SLE. Patients and method s: The study was implied on two groups, 100 Egyptian SLE patients and 100 healthy control subject with matched age and sex. The studied patients were subjected to history talking, clinical examination, general laboratrory investigations and polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR/ RFLP) for TLR9 rs352140 gene polymorphism. -Results: No significant association between TLR9 rs352140 genotypes and the risk for developinfg SLE. The GA genotype was foumd to be associuated with increased risk for lupus nephritis iun SLE patients. discussion: The results of the present study that is implied of Egyptian population are in accordance with other studies that was made on other populations from different ethnicities. summary and conclusion : The role of TLR9 rs352140 can not be excluded , more studies are needed on different populations. Also the gene expression in urinary sediment should be studied. References: 138 referenc -Arabic summary: 2 pages.
