Abstract
The present work was performed to investigate the relation between serum fetuin-A level and renal impairment induced by obesity in comparison with that induced by gentamicin in rats and to determine the effect of treatment with fenofiberates.
The present work was carried on (70) albino male rats; the rats were divided into four main groups as follow:
1- Control group (15 rats):
The rats of this group were fed standard chow diet for 24 weeks.
2- Obese group (25 rats):
The rats of this group were fed a HFD for 24 weeks. After that, rats of this group were exposed to preliminary test (urine albumin to creatinine ratio (ACR) and according to the result, rats of this group was subdivided into two subgroups:
A: Obese group without renal impairment (12 rats) (ACR<30mg albumin/g creatinine).
B: Obese group with renal impairment (13rats) (ACR≥30mg albumin/g creatinine).
3- Fenofibrate treated obese group (15 rats):
The rats of this group were fed a HFD along with fenofibrate (100 mg/kg/d) (by oral gavage) for 24 weeks.
4- Gentamicin induced renal impairment group (15 rats):
The rats of this group were fed stander show diet for 24 weeks. In the last eight days they were injected intraperitoneally with Gentamicin at dose (80 mg/kg/d). After that, rats of this group were exposed to preliminary test ACR. Renal impairment was determined by ACR≥30mg albumin/g creatinine.
