Abstract Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the most common primary hepatic malignancy and one of the most prevalent visceral malignances worldwide. Most hepatocellular carcinomas arise in patients with chronic liver disease, usually cirrhosis that is especially due to HBV and HCV infections.HCC prevention falls into two catigories .Primary prevention that aimed at prevention of HCC development in patients with chronic liver diseases and secondary prevention that is aimed at preventing the recurrence and/or the development of HCC lesions. To best assess the prognosis of hepatocellular carcinoma patients it is recommended that the staging system takes into account tumor stage, liver function and physical status. Currently, the BCLC system is the only staging system that accomplishes these aims. |
