Abstract 1 A Study on Some Viral Contaminants in Live Poultry Vaccines” A total number of 131 live-virus poultry vaccine serials (119 imported vaccine serials plus 12 local vaccine serials) from different companies were examined for the presence of avian leucosis virtus (ALV) and reticuloendotheliosis virus (REV) as vaccine contaminants using in-vitro and in-vivo procedures.. The live vaccine serials examined included Newcastle disease (ND) vaccines, fowl pox (FP) vaccines, and Marek’s disease (MD) vaccines. The in-vitro procedures comprised inoculation of 100-250 neutralized vaccine doses in specific pathogen free (SPF) secondary chicken embryo fibroblast (CEF) cultures, subculturing twice at 7-day-intervals and testing by enzyme linked immunosorbant assay (ELISA) and indirect flunrescent antibody (IFA) for ALV and REV antigens. The in-vivo test entailed intra-abdomenal inoculation of 10 vaccine doses of each of the tested vaccines into 1-3 day-old SPF chicks, and testing of blood samples collected weekly for four weeks by ELISA for the presence of ALV and REV antigens in plasma. At the 4th week post-inoculation (PT), serum samples were tested for the presence of ALV and REV antibodies using commercial ELISA kits. |
