Abstract Tribological characteristics of aluminium-graphite composites, produced using powder metallurgy technique, are studied by investigating both the composite variables and the wear test variables. The composite variables are; the graphite weight fraction, the graphite particle size and the aluminium matrix hardness. The wear test variables are; the sliding distance, the contact pressure and the sliding velocity. The composite samples are produced using hot extrusion process. The evaluation of the variation in wear behaviour of the composites is achieved by the determination of the amount of weight-loss, the wear rate in the steady state region and by the examination of surface topography of samples after the wear tests, using the SEM. Also, the surface composition of the samples is detected using the energy dispersive X-ray analysis. |
