Abstract This work aims to study, under simulated drought conditions, the use of urea dissolved in drinking water as a nitrogen supplement for sheep and to compare urea with conventional protein supplements. The effects of water deprivation, for up to 3 days, on nutrients digestibilities and nitrogen metabolism in sheep are also studied. 12 adult barki x merino rams are used in 3 groups. All animals are fed a basal low protein diet of wheat straw and corn grains to satisfy their maintenance energy requirements and only 60% of digestible protein requirements. Rations are offered once daily and drinking water is offered for one hour daily at feeding time. |
