Abstract

Handicapped child is one who deviates from The normal, physically mentally or psychologically such children need special care , treatment and education. Its usually to classify handicapped children into three groups physically handicapped, mentally handicapped and psychological handicapped. The study was carried out In the three handicapped school and rehabilitation centers namely EL fikrreia school for mentally retarded children , EI Nour school for blind children and EI Amal school for hearing and speech disabilities for male and female. Rehabilitation centers of poliomyelitis centers in Assiut city. The number of .sample 710 care givers were obtained from the previous setting divided to 80% from the study sample were parents, 20% were teachers and other personal from the school care givers). The aim of the present study is to assess knowledge , attitudes and performance of care givers, concerning nursing care handicapped children in Assiut city. An interview questionnaire sheet (Appendix I) was developed• to elicit intonation about sociodemographic characteristics of handicapped children and child daily activities , sociodemographic characteristics of parents , causes of handicapped and social relation between handicapped children and their families. Another questionnaire sheet to assess school (environment, medical care for children , stressors , facing mother , rehabilitation services for children, medical care and housing condition. ( Appendix 2) .
