المستخلص - THE STUDY PRODLEM: In the light of the review of the previous literature on the issue of citizenship and the development of its values as well as the lack in the pupils’ awareness of their rights, duties and responsibilities, the concern of the present study was developing the citizenship value among the prep.stage pupils. The research problem was stated in the following six questions: 1)What is the relationship between the concept of citizenship and the concept of values? 2)What are the reasons for developing citizenship among the prep stage pupils? 3)What are the citizenship values that require development among the prep stage pupils? 4)What is the role of prep stage curricula in developing the citizenship values? 5)What is the role of teacher in developing the citizenship values? ...6) What is the suggested vision for activating the role of prep school for developing the citizenship values among the pupils? - STUDY OBJECTIVES: 1.Determining the concept of citizenship values that should be developed among the prep stage pupils. 2.Defining the role of prep stage curricula in developing the citizenship values. 3.Examining the role of teacher in developing the citizenship values. 4.Preparing a suggested vision for activating the role of prep schools for developing the citizenship values anion;.; their pupils. - STUDY METHODOLOGY: The present qtudy followed the descriptive method because it is the most suitable one so as to achieve its objectives and survey the citizenship values that required development among the prep stag pupils. - STUDY TOOLS: A list of citizenship values and an observation checklist were developed by the present study researcher. - STUDY LIMITATIONS: The present study limited itself to the following: •Nine basic citizenship values included in some courses and necessary for the prep stage pupils. •A sample of male and female teachers in the prep stage in Qalubiya Governorate. •Some schools located in Tukh town, Qalubiya Governorate. - STUDY PROCEDURES: >Chapter 1: Introduction, problem, objectives, significance, methodology, and related studies. >Chapter 2: The concept of values and their relationship with citizenship. âChapter 3: The role of basic education in developing citizenship values. >Chapter 4: The filed study. -3- > Chapter 5: A suggested vision for activating the role of prep schools for developing the citizenship vaiues among their pupils. - STUDY RESULTS: The present study revealed several results. The some of them: 1-The content of curricula did not focus on the citizenship values. 2-Curricula in general and third prep history course in particular did not develop citizenship values. 3-National issues and current events were not the concern of the school curricula. 4-Citizenship issue was not stated or presented clearly the school curricula. 5-Lack of teachers who were interested in developing the citizenship values. 6-Some citizenship values ranked higher according to the observation checklist. These values were: cooperation and responsibility. Equality values were in the middle position on the values system. Tolerance, freedom, awareness of rights and duties, loyalty, courage and equity were the low position according to the values system In addition, the present study reached some recommeith Lions for supporting and developing the citizenship values anion; the prep stage pupils. ************* |
