Abstract

Abortion means interruption or spontaneous discharge of the gestation sac before the fetus is viable. Previously this applied to fetal loss up to 28 weeks gestation but since October 1992, it applies to losses up to 22 completed weeks gestation. Spontaneous Abortion occurs in about 50% of pregnancies, 15% of which are clinically recognized. The vast majority occur in the first 14 days following conception (Christiansen OB. 1996).Cytomegalovirus (CMV) is a common viral infection that usually causes no symptoms in infected children and adults. CMV which is a member of Herpes virus family, is common in young children appears to be transmitted from person to person through contact with a saliva, urine and semen of infected person (Dort J, et al 2003).
