Abstract SUMMARY AND CONCLUSION This study was conducted on 30 patients attending Benha University Hospital and Meet Ghamer General Hospital for abdominal myomectamy. An hour before the operation the patients in the study group received 400g of misoprostol via rectal route comparing to the patient in the control group who received an inert tablet with the same colour and shape (placebo). The aim of our study was to detect the effect of a single dose of preoperative misoprostol administration in cases of abdominal myomectomy in decreasing intra- operative blood loss, operation time and post operative side effects. This study demonstrated statistically significant increase in intraoperative blood loss, operation time and need for blood transfusion in the control group compared to the misoprostol group. The study showed statistically significant change in hemodynamic parameters (mean blood pressure and pulse rate) during operation in control group compared to misoprostol one. While the postoperative hematological values in control group were statistically significantly less than that values in misoprostol group. Finally the study concluded that misoprostol is effective prior to myomectony for reducing intraoperative blood loss, operation time and post operative complications. Larger, multicenteric studies are needed before reaching these conclusions. |
