All patients were treated while ambulatory, with normal activity. They were divided into 3 groups each made of 20 patients Group A : Treated with sedation by phenobarbitone in a dose of 30 mg 3 times daily . Group B : Treated with sedation as above together with Propranolol ( Inderal ) in a dose of 20 mg 3 times da-ily as a hypotensive . Group C : Treated with sedation as above together with Methyl dopa ( Aldomet ) in a dose of 250 mg 3 times daily as a hypotensive The 3 groups were compared using the ” student t test 12, group A was used as a control. This comparison was done according to : - Age, parity and gestational age . - Diastolic blood pressure before treatment and after 2 weeks and 4 weeks of treatment . - Blood urea and serum creatinine before treatment and after 2 weeks and 4 weeks of treatment - Increase in the biparietal diameter during the period -8I- of treatment . We found that there was significant decrease in the mean diastolic blood pressure after 2weeks of treatment in each of the three groups, but there was no Significant difference between the mean diastolic blood pressure after 2 weeks and after 4weeks of treatment.Ther was no signifi-cant difference between the 3 groups regarding the mean diastolic blood pressure before treatment and after 2 and 4 weeks of treatment, the mean blood urea before treatment and after 2 and 4 weeks of treatment, the mean serum ere-atinine before treatment and after 2 weeks of treatment and the mean increase in the biparietal diameter during the period of treatment. Regarding serum creatinine after 4 weeks of treatment, group B was significantly higher than group A ( p < 0.05 ). Pundus examination showed no abnorm-ality in any patient at any visit . The results of this study showed that, neither Methyl dopa with Phenobarbitone nor Propranolol with Phenobarbitone provided more benifits to outpatient pregnant females with nonresymptomatic non albuminuric hypertension late in preg-nancy, than Phenobarbitone alone . |
