Abstract

Our study had been carried on 20 hypertensive
patients with chronic renal failure and on 10 hypercalcaemic
patients with chronic renal failure.
Our cases were selected from the out-patient
clinic and in-patient section in Mansoura. General.
Hospital.
The following finding were reported in this work :
1. 33% of the hypertensive patients were hypercalcaemic.
2. 33% of the hypercalcaemic patients were hypertensive.
3. A significant DROP of both systolic and diastolic
blood pressure was observed on the 12 th day
after stoppage of Vito D. the mean serum calcium
on the 12th day was 10.97 + 1.04 •
.On ’the 3rd, 6th and 9th day after stoppage of
vito P. when the mean serum calcium was still above
the normal range, no significant DROP of blood
pressure occuredQ On compa~ing the mean blood pressure
- 80 -
on 12th and 24th day, no statistically significant
DROP of blood pressure was found.
The rapid DROP of blood pressure makes us believe
and directs our attention to the following mechanisms
as being responsible for the hypertension in hypercalcaemic
patients.
Increasing the vascular resistance.
Increasing in the cardiac output.
Increasing in the plasma renin activity.
Renal damage resulting from hypercalcaemia is
not probably the mechanism by which hypercalcaemia
can cause hypertension that is because the rapid
DROP of, the blood pressure will not occure if renal
damage is the underlying cause.
On the light of this study we advice chronic
-renal failure patients with hypertension who take
Vito D and hypercalcaemic,to stop Vito D leading
to DROP the blood pressure to the normal rangeo
