Abstract Guava leaf has a long history of folk medicinal uses in Egypt and worldwide as a cough sedative and as an antidiahreal. It is also applied in the management of hypertension, obesity and in the control of diabetes mellitus in several countries. The leaf extract is used in many pharmaceutical preparations as a cough sedative. The work presented in this thesis represents a phytochemical investigation, botanical and antimicrobial studies of Psidium guajava L. leaf together with the quantitative evaluation of its flavonoidal content in order to establish a monograph that helps in the quality control of the leaf. |
