Abstract Fifty lour (54) cases with alcohol intoxication were admitted to Menoufiya Forensic Medicine, Poisoning and Addiction Control Center throughout two years from the first of July 2001 to the end of.lune 2003.The most common age grouy) in the studied cases was from ! 0-20 years (40.8%) ibllowed by the age-groups from 20-30 years (1 8.5%).Cases from urban areas were significantly more than those from rural ones (63.0%). Most eases were single (66.7% ). (63.0%) could read and write.Manual workers (37.0%) and skilled workers (37.0%)) were more prevalent among the studied cases. 63.0% of cases had low income per month and most of the cases gave history of irregular performance of religious rituals (96.3%).Tobacco smokers (74.1%) frequently took alcohol more than non-smokers (25.9%,).The study revealed that (59.3%) of (heir lathers’ occupations were manual workers. House wife mothers constituted (88.9%) as compared to (11.1%) civil employee mothers. Fathers living with families (85.2%)) Were more than those abroad (11.1%). Their was statistically significant relation between size of family and alcohol intake where big family >5 members were (59.3%). 70.4% of drinkers were middle children in family order.In the studied cases, the age at which patients drank !he first time of alcohol was from 2()-<30 years (40.3%). 63.0% of cases took alcohol as a trial. 81.5% of cases stated to drink through persuasion of their friends. |
