Abstract

Laser Doppler flowmetry (LDF )is a new safe and non-invasive diagnostic modality used in the assessment of microvascular blood flow .Wide clinical applications of this technology have taken place .
Dynamic nailfold capillaroscopy (NFC) provides a simple diagnostic tool to visualize the skin capillary bed .
Both techniques ,LDF and NFC are valuable in the study of Raynaud’s phenomenon and the microcirculation in SLF, scleroderma and other connective tissue diseases .
The aim of this work is to study and compare the effects of calcium –channel antagonist ,lacidipine and low-dose L-thyroxine on the microcirculation in patients with SLE .
The study included 42 SLE patients (39females and 3 males as had RP and 20 with no RP ) ,8 scleroderma patients all females as disease control group and 20 normal healthy subjects ((18 females and 2 males )as control group .Lacidipine 2 mg and L-thyroxine 25 ug were given to patients in a cross over manner for 2 weeks with an intervening 3 week washout period (lacidipine was received by 22SLE and 5 scleroderma patients and L-thyroxine was received by 24 SLE and 3 scleroderma patients .
Pre-treatment and post-treatment laser Doppler flow parameters were compared .
