Abstract The present study deals essentially with the geochemical and radiometric studies on some granitoid rocks of Gabal Hamra area. This area is located in the southwestern part of Sinai Peninsula and limited by longitudes 33O 40- and 33O 48-E and latitudes 28’ 45- and 28* 53-N. The study area covers about 223km2. Gabal Hamra forms an oval shape of younger granitic rocks with NW-SE elongation. It is intruded in older rocks. The rock units in the area can be chronologically arranged starting with the youngest as follows: - Wadi deposits. - Muscovite-biotite granite (Gabal Hamra granite). - Quartz-syenite. - Porphyritic rhyodacite. - Hornblende-biotite granite. - Tonalite-granodiorite complex. The tonalite-granodiorite complex is medium to coarse grained, grey in colour, forming low relief hills and crops out to the east and north of the study area. The hornblendebiotite granite is small elongated intrusion, coarse grained and crop out to the south of the study area. |
