Abstract The present investigation showed that herbicides affected cotton w i l t by t h e i r d i r e c t e f f e c t s on fungal a c t i v i t y and by decreasing s u s c e p t i b i l i t y of cotton plants to w i l t disease caused by Ver.t.icillium dahliae and Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. vasinfectum. The used herbicides were diuron, eptam, cotoran, cotofor, trifluralin, stomp, dual and cotogard, a t four concentrations (5.0 x lom5 , 5.0 x low4 , 1.0 x low3 and 2.0 x low3 M). They belong to different groups of chemical compounds. In v i t r o studies showed that herbicides greatly inhibited radial growth, mycelial biomass and spore germination of 2. dahliae and 2. oxysporum. The inhibitory effect was d i r e c t l y related to the herbicide i t s e l f and its concentration. The inhibitory effect on 2. oxysporwn w a s less than that on 1. dahliae (the s e n s i t i v i t y of -V. dahl iae t o herbicides was higher than t h a t of -F. oxysporum). Diuron was t h e most e f f e c t i v e on r a d i a l growth and biomass production i n both fungi. |
