Abstract
Thi s stady was conducted a t t h e Fa cul ty of Agr i cul -t u r e , Tanta University, Kafr El-Sheikh. The f i e l d experimentswere c a r r i e d out a t Sakha A g r i c u l t u r a l ResearchS t a t i o n , Kafr El-Sheikh, Egypt, during 1987 and 1988 seasons. This work aimed t o study the e f f e c t of water s t r e s s znd plant population on some meize hybrids under normal c o n t r o l a~ds i x wa t e r s t r e s s t r e a tme n t s namely : water s t r e s s at v e g e t a t i v e s t a g e (35 days from p l e n t i n g , silking stage 65 days-from plenting , ear stage 75 days from p l a n t i n g , v e g e t a t i v e + silking s t a g e s , vegeta t i v e + ear s t a g e s snd silking + ear stages. Two plant d e n e s t i e s using two 20 000 and 30 000 plant populetion per fedden were t e s t e d . The maize genotypes entered i n the study were double c r o s s 204 and its psrents s i n g l e c r o s s 104 and sip~lec r o s s 1 0 7 a s we l l as t h e double c r o s s 215 an6 its p a r e n t s s i n g l e cross 103 and the above mentioneds i n g l e cross 107. The experimental design used was s p l i t - s p l i t - p l o t design with four r e p l i c a t i o n s . Water s t r e s s was t e s t e d .in the nain p l o t s . The sub-plots were used f o r the plant populations and the maize hybrids were a l l o c a t e d in the sub-sub-plots.
