Abstract Ths work provides a comprehensive study of the kmetics of the redox reaction between potassium ferrioxalate complex, K, [Fe(C204),] .3H20 with some aliphatic and aromatic organic amines, such as hydroxylamine hydrochloride, hydrazine hydrochloride, phenylhydrazine, aniline and its derivatives. The reaction was carried out in an aqueous alcoholic solution and the reaction rate was followed spectrophotometrically. The current work aimed at studying the kinetics and the mechanism of the concerned redox reaction at various temperatures under dfierent worlang conditions. The thesis consists of three main chapters, introduction, experimental, results and discussion . The first chapter shows a literature survey on the oxidation of organic amines with different oxidising agents. Chapter I1 describes the materials, experimental methods and techniques used in conducting the current work. Chapter I11 displays the results and its discussion. It was found that the rate of the redox reaction depends on the type of the arnine. The primary and secondary salt effects have been investigated. Positive and negative primary and secondary salt effects were observed. The solvent effect in terms of the dielectric constant of the mixed solvent of the reaction medium was elucidated. The effect of cationic and anionic surfactants on the reaction rate was studied. The catalytic effect of Ce(1V)- ion on the reaction rate was also studied. Chapter IV contains the conclusions. The thesis contains also English and Arabic summaries as well as a list of references relevant to the field of the current work. |
