Abstract

The liver is the largest organ in the body weighing 1.2 to 1.5 kg and representing 2 % total body weight. It performs a wide variety of functions. Include excretory, metabolic, enzymatic, homeostatic, detoxification and storage functions. Large scales of liver function tests are available and most often employed to determine: the presence of liver disease, the type of this disease and its extent and progression. Fatly liver is the liver disease which shows macrovascular fat accumulation in the hepatocytes with or without alcohol consumption.Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) exists as histological spectrum ranging from simple steatosis with only mild inflammation (type 1 and 2 NAFLD) to more severe steatohepatitis. NAFELD when was first discovered by Ludwig, 1980, was common in women than men and was associated with diabetes, obesity and metabolic syndrome. However the disease can occur in men and in those without diabetes or obesity. NASH represents a necroinflammatory liver disease with fat deposition. Fat accumulation in the liver without inflammation when seen in diabetes, obesity and metabolic syndrome represent other types of NAFLD than NASH.
