Abstract The rock magnetic studies of the Nile mud are the first investigations of this kind (chapter 2). They indicate that the main magnetic mineral in the Nile mud is magnetite. This is proven by X - ray diffraction, Ms(T) curves, IRM acquisition curves, hysteresis loops and microscopic observations. The microscopic observations showed that the magnetite grains have small diameters between 0.2 - 30 um and consist of irregularly to octahedrally shaped crystals. |
