Abstract

Due to the increasing importance of cows and buffaloes as production units, the present study aimed to investigate of the normal bacterial flora of the genital tract of cows and buffaloes in contrast with that of chronic endometritis is very important as it enable us to evaluate the role played by the different bacteria on the genital tract and sensitivity test be routinely performed to select the most effective antibiotics. In the present study a total of 246 samples collected from apparently healthy and endometritic cows and buffaloes. Cervical or vaginal swabs were taken from 55 cows (20 apparently healthy and 35 suffering from endometritis) and 71 buffaloes (25 apparently healthy and 46 suffering from various degrees of endometritis) collected from dairy farms at Damieta and Dakahlia Governorate. Also uterine swabs taken from uterine lumen of 44 female genitalia of slaughtered cows (10 apparently healthy and 34 endometritic) and 76 female genitalia of slaughtered buffaloes (15 apparently healthy and 61 endometritic) collected from Mansoura abattoir. This study recommends that:
1.All postpartum animals should be investigated by culture and sensitivity test in 1st.week to exclude postpartum complications which may cause infertility in animals and affect animals reproduction.
2.In cases of bacterial endometritis, the proper interference by using the aforementioned antibiotics in combination of 2 or 3 antibiotics preferably enrofloxacin, gentamycin and chloramphenicol to ovoid the postpartum complications.
3.Local therapy should be taken in mind beside systematic antibiotics.
