Abstract The present study investigate the relation between the concentration levels of some heavy metals (Pb, Cd, Hg, Cu, Zn, Cr and Fe) in the water of Lake Bardawil which is a protected area. Also, to compare the pbtained results with those of Lake Manzalah in which striped mullet (Mugil cephalus) lives. There was accumulated heavy metals of those studied heavy metals in the water of Lake Manzalah. Moreover, study illustrate the effect of those heavy metals accumulation on M. cephalus by histological and histochemical studies on testes, ovaries and skeletal muscles of M. cephalus. There were observed alterations in these organs of M. cephalus from Lake Manzalah. There were observed alterations in the skeletal muscles of the studied fish from Lake Manzalah this by ultrastructural studies. The vertebral column was high thickness in the studied fish from Lake Bardawil than those from Lake Manzalah as was shown by the X-Ray examination. All these results can effect on the studied fish (M. cephlus) growth and their reproductive ability The present study, documented that the improvement of water quality control and the periodically environmental monitoring are necessary in El-Manzalah Lake water. In addition, there are many recommendations from the health authorities for regarding the acceptable number of the consumed fish meals, which hunted from El-Manzalah Lake to prevent the accumulative effects of the heavy metal. |
