Abstract This work was carried out to study the biology and prey consumption and effect of different temperature on feeding capacity, fecundity and life table parameters of the two prevalent species Saniosulus nudus Summers, family Eupalopsellidae fed on Parlatolia oleae Colvee, eggs and Phytoseius plumifer (Canestrini & Fanzago), family Phytoseiidae fed on immature stages of Tetranychus urticae Koch. This however might throw light on their role in biological control of associated hosts. The predatory mite S. nudus was reared at 20, 25 and 30 °C, Generally, male immatures reached to adulthood before females except at 20 °C where it was noticed that males had a slightly longer developmental time. A quiescent stage occurs before the moving one. Concerning adult stages, the males lived for a shorter time than females. Concerning prey consumption, the average number of consumed P. oleae eggs as well as the daily rate increased with the progressive developmental stages of the predator, and also varied according to different temperatures. Life table parameters of S. nudus, results clearly indicated that thermal factor has a great influence. In general, the best temperature for cold storage egg of the predatory mite, S. nudus was 5°C which lead to increase in incubation period and hatchability percentage. The predatory mite Phytoseius plumifer (C& F), it was noticed that incubation period of female and male were shortened with increasing temperature. The shortest period among all immature stages for both females and males was the larval stage, males lived for a shorter time than females. During life span, the mite female fed on a greater number of prey than male. Life table data of P. plumifer clearly indicated that thermal factor has a great influence and the mean generation time (T0) decreased with increasing temperature. |
