Abstract Six tomatoes varieties (Lycopersicon esculentum,Mill), Balady, Castlemor, castlex 499, Castlong,Marmand V.F and Korai Bibor were used to produce five hybrids combinations of (Balady X Castlemor), (Balady X Castlex 499), (Balady X Castlong), (Balady X Marmand VF) and (Balady X Korai Bibor). For each hybrid two parents, F¹, F2 and two back-crosses generations were planted in summer of 1986. The six parameter models was used to estimate additive and nonadditive gene effects. Heterosis and inbreeding depression, heritabilities in both narrow and broad sense and genetic advance from selection were also investigated for vegetative traits, flowering traits, yield traits and fruit characteristics. 1- Heterosis in tomato plants for all populations: A- Vegetative traits : 1. Heterosis determined from the mid-parents: The estimated values of heterosis was significant for plant height, while they was insignificant for the number of branches. 2Heterosis determined from the high-parent: The Fl hybrids was lower than the high-parent for plant height and number of branches. |
