Abstract The structural trend analysis that deduced from the application of autocovariance technique at magnetic, radiometric and topographic maps prevailed the following : i) The E- W tectonic trend (Tethyan) is the oldest one or basement trend that prevailed during the precambrian time. This trend was probably caused by a major stress axis (P) that have been proved to be more or less north - south. (ii) The N - W (Suez) and N - E (Syrian Arc) tectonic trends, are believed to be Late - Cretaceous in age and may be due to compressive forces activated during the Upper Cretaceous - Paleocene times which assumed to be directed in the E - W direction. This trend had affected at the basement and the overlying sediments in the area of study. |
