Abstract The following main conclusions were formulated based on the observations and data collected during the present work. - The investigated lower cretaceous succession is composed entirely of non - fossiliferous clastic sediments, with complete absence of evaporites or calcareous rocks. - The succession under investigation overlies Upper Jurassic sediments and underlies Cenomanian marls. - The assignment of the term Malha Formation to the lower cretaceous sediments recorded on the Western side of the Gulf of Suez is in need of modification. - The succession starts by a sandstone until with claystone intercalations, followed upwards by four lenticular kaolin beds, then a siltstone - claystone until interbedded with sandstone and finally by montonous, cross - bedded sandstones. |
