Abstract There is no longer doubt that neurocognitive impairment is an important feature of the schizophrenic syndrome. However, it is still regarded difficult to distinguish between syndrome related impairment and cognitive dysfunction resulting from side effects of antipsychotic drugs . This study was carried with the aim of assessing the presence of cognitive impairment among schizophrenic patients , to determine if it is more in certain Schizophrenic subtypes and whether it could be corrected by treatment or not. The thesis is divided into two main parts , theoretical and practical parts The Theoretical part included four main chapters . The practical part was applied on 130 subjects divided into * patient group . * control group . Both were subjected to various investigations which resulted in the suggestion that cognitive impairment occur early in the illness , before introduction of any antipsychotics . |
