Abstract This study deals with the evaluation of the subsurface geology and mineral potentialities of the area of Debbet El Qerai, southwestern Sinai, Egypt. The investigation site covers an area of about 16 km2 between latitudes (29o 4/, 29o 7/) N and longitudes (33o17/, 33o 22/) E. The present work includes a study of gamma ray spectrometry survey, magnetic survey, shallow refraction seismic survey, and ground electric resistivity survey. These methods of investigations were conducted integrally in order to delineate the subsurface structure and obtain the boundaries of Um Bogma Formation that bosses a valuable amount of radioactive minerals and manganese ore. In the study area, gamma ray spectrometric survey was done to find any radioactive anomalies within the surface. A systematic magnetic survey was done alsoto estimate the depth of the basement and to determine the tectonic framework takeplace through the studied area. Shallow seismic refraction and the geoelectric resistivity sounding surveys were conducted mainly to tracethe upper and lower boundaries of Um Bogma Formation and to determine its velocity and resistivity, respectively. Also, in order to recognize if this formation possess mineral potentialities. from the interpretation that applied on the various observations from geology and the applied geophysical methods, Debbet El Qerai area appears to beintersected by two main types of faults one trends NWSE parallel to the Gulf of Suez and NESW parallel to Gulf of Aqaba. Moreover, the mineralized zone in Um Bogma Formation can distinguished when this zone has bothlow velocity and resistivity values. |
