Abstract The present research work comprised two studies. The first study was a crosssectional study, conducted upon 194 subjects to study some health effects of occupational and environmental exposures to extremely low frequency electromagnetic fields (ELFEMFs) among workers (in Talkha Steam Power Plant and workers engaged in maintenance of electrical transmission lines) and residents living near high voltage lines, in Dakahlia governorate. The second study was a casecontrol study, carried out on 502 cancer cases, to investigate the possible association between exposure to ELFEMFs and the development of leukemia, brain tumor and breast tumor. The present research work concluded that: There was no association between both occupational and residential exposure to ELFEMFs; and any of the studied health effects except for arrhythmia, melatonin depression, MDA elevation and musculoskeletal disorders The second study revealed no support to the hypothesis of association between occupational exposure to ELFEMFs and leukemia, brain tumors and breast cancer. |
