Abstract

ARTHROSCCOPY IN HIGH TIBIAL OSTEOTOMY Troubles due to arthritic knees are common problems in the middle and old age groups. High tibial valgus osteotomy has been shown to be a p.wdictable successful treatment fO1 medial varus osteoarthritis. The success of this procedure has been attributed primarily to the restoration of the normal mechanical axis of the affected leg. Recommendations for the criteria of selection of patients varied. The role of arthroscopy has not been established yet. The aim of this work was to determine the value of arthroscopy in selecting patients for high tibial valgus osteotomy in determin¬ing the prognostic significance of effect of the state of knee compart¬ments on the results of osteotomy. The aim also, was to determine the effect of osteotomy on each of the three knee compartments and both menisci arthroscopically. Treatment of the knee O.A. varies and progranuue of management should be individualized. High tibial valgus osteotomy is an established and accepted technique for medial compartmental a.A. We have discussed the controversy of the role of arthroscopic evaluation preosteotwl for patient selection. Arthroscopic debridement pre-osteotomy has not been established yet.
