Abstract Insulin dependent diabetes mellitus patients have a high risk opremature development of atherosclerosis and CAD. One of the atherogenic factors in IDDM is an elevated serum levels of triglycerides and LDL-C, and because Apo B is the major protein moiety of LDL-C and VLDL ; this work aimed to determine apolipoprotein B in patients with type I diabetes mellltus before and after cOrrection of the hyperglycemic state. 20 patients with type I diabetes mellitus were subjected to estimation of their plasma level Of blood glucose, glycosylated hemoglobin, triglycerides, total cholesterol, LDL-C, HDL-C and apolipoprotein B at the start of the study and after 2 to 3 Monthes 0+ adequate glycemic control. In adition, 10 nOrmal healthy subjects were carefully selected as a control group. The results were: 1) Apolipoprotein B, total cholesterol, triglycerides, LDL-C were significantly higher in IDDM patients before glycemic is clearly control as compared to controls. On the other hand, HDL-C was significantly lower in those patients as compared to controls. 2) After adequate glycemic control there was no significant differance in Apo B, total cholesterol, triglycerides, LDL-C, HDL-C between patients and controls. Thus Apo B related to the degree of glycemic control. In conclusion diabetic control may have antiatherogenic effgects through nOrmalization of Apo B levels. |
