Abstract The aim of this work is to find out the most suitable effective dose of praziquantel in treating active bilharziasis with minimal side effect. The material of this study comprised 42 patients 38 males and 4 females, with the age ranging from 16-60 years. Thorough history taking and full general and local examination was done to all patients in addition to the following investigation before and one month after treatment e.g.: Some liver function tests including serum bilirubin, SGPT & SGOT, albumin and prothrombin time. HBsAg, Hb and E.S.R. Repeated stool and urine analysis. Sigmoidoscopic examination with rectal and colonic mucosal biopsy was done to 12 patients before treatment (those with negative results on stool examination) and to all patients one month after drug therapy. The patients were devided into four groups according to the regimen of the drug used. |
