Abstract
This work studied the hietopathoiogical and his to-ehtaical changes in the nasal aucosa of 20 patients with tracheostoa^ for long stand ing periods (ranging from one year to 16 jeare) of different ages varying froa 25 to 70 ^eurs, of both sexes. In addition to 10 normal subject acts as acontrole group with ages varying from 20 to 60 ^ears of both . In all the biopsy specimens (20 patients) f the nasal respiratory mucosa of the inferior turbinate showed pseu-dostratified columnar ciliated epithelium, which was rich in goblet cello f with some areas of stratified squamous epithelium. The nasal :aucosa was aoist with a good raucous blanket. subepithelial co^aective tissue etroaa showed n in the density of fibrosis* A eubepithelial condensations of elastic fibres were seen in 6 specimens* An regards the glands 9 the mixed seroraucinous glands were apparently exoesaive in 6 biopsy specimens. The muc ous aciifci were scanty f while marked predominance of the saroas ones seen in most of the specimens (19 biopsy specimens).
