Abstract

As the species of dermatophytes most likely to be causing tinea capitis vary from country to country and from region to regiong the aim of this work was to study the previoling fungi which are responsible for this fungal infection in Dakahlia , Patients (150) of both sexs and different ages show ing several basic clinical picture of tinea capitis (scaly type, Black dot type, kerion and favus ) were randomely selected to comprise the material for our study . They were collected from the outpatient clinic of skin and venereal diseases at Mansoura University Hospital . selected material including hairs and/or scales were collected from the lesions by 2 methods, the scraping and the square carpet techniques . In every case they were subjected to mycological examination including both direct microscopy and culture of the collected samples. In general, positive results of the clinico mycollogical study of the patients revealed that T.violaceum was the commonest isolated dermatophyte (78.08%) that causes tinea capitis in our district , Microsporum canis comes next in frequency (13.7%) followed by mixed infection.
