Abstract The photovoltaic system is a promising source of energy which produces no pollution and has less impact on the environment. The photovoltaic system is classified into two types: grid connected and standalone system. The common standalone system consists of a solar panel, storage batteries and electronic controller. The energy storage battery is a fundamental and critical part of any standalone PV system, and get involved in the storage of excess photovoltaic generated energy in a form suitable for use during periods when the solar energy is insufficient or during the night hours to support load demands. In this thesis, a proposed battery charge control system is introduced to protect the batter from overcharge and underdischarge conditions. This system uses a programmable microcontroller for receiving the electrical signals from the comparators connected with the protected battery and sending signals to trigger the electronic switches used for the protection purpose. The standalone PV system commonly supplies an AC loads. So an inverter must be added to the system to invert the DC into AC voltage. The thesis offers a design of a full bridge inverter. The inverter employees the resonant impulse commutation to force the main thyristor into its offstate. |
