Abstract This investigation was carried out at Sakha Agricltural Research station. The genetic materials used in the present study included eight white maize inbred lines. The inheritance of some quantitaive characters was studied and determined according to Griffing?s procedure (1956) Method 2 odel 1 The results can be summarized as follows: the mean squares due to genotypes (G) ; i.e. parents (P) , crosses (C) and p . Vs. C were found to be highly significant for all studied traits in two years and their combined data. The general combining ability ( G C A) and specific combining ability ( S C A ) were highly significant for all studied traits in two years and their combined data. More over , the nonadditive gene effects including domenance were more important in the inheritance of no . of dayes to 50% silking, ear height , leaf area , grain yield and ear diameter. But the additive gene effects were important in heritance of plant height , no . of leaves / plant, no . of rows / ear , no. of grains / row , weight of 100 grains and size of 100 grains. The results revealed that highly significant and positive correlation between grain yield with most studied traits , indicating that the indirect bselection for linked traits with yield would be useful and effective for improving grain yield. Generly , all the heterosis percentage values were positive and highly significant for all studied traits with exception of silking date showed negative and highly significant heterosis towards earlines. |
