Abstract The thesis deals with biological activity, structural chemistry of some azo compounds mainly from the coordinating behaviour view points and corrosion inhibition of nickel. However, no coordination chemistry studies were reported for 5(4derivatives phenylazo)3(4methoxyphenyl)2thioxo4thiazolidinone (HLn) ligands, which is the aim of this thesis. Also, the thesis described preparation of 3(4methoxyphenyl)2thioxo4thiazolidinone as well as 5(4derivatives phenylazo)3(4methoxyphenyl)2thioxo4thiazolidinone (HLn) ligands (pmethoxy, pmethyl, phydrogen, pchloro and pnitroaniline). The elemental analysis of all compounds are included. The different instruments utilized in these studies (IR and corrosion rate determination) are given and standarized The dissociation constant (pK1H) of HL1 HL5 decreases with increasing temperature revealing that the acidity of the ligands increases with increasing temperature. Weight loss method revealed that the presence of these additives in solution retards the corrosion of nickel and the inhibition efficiency depends on the type and concentration of the additive. The action of the additives in the aggressive acid media is assumed to be due to their adsorption at the metal/solution interface. The inhibition efficiency of these compounds depends on many factors. |
